Treads in tires – different types

Replacement of tires from snow to summer ones can only be done if the weather conditions are favorable. Even though winter often surprises us, when the temperature hits over 7 Celsius and there are no more freezes or snow, it is time when we can safely change our tires. However, to choose the most appropriate types of tires it is best to ask a vulcanizer for an advice on this matter – she or he will select a proper type for our drive mode, so the best suggestions will come from a professional.

Firstly, we have to select tires with proper tread – in vehicles used on daily basis most commonly there are 3 treads to choose from.

First of these treads is directional tread. It is distinguished by leaving v-tracks on surface while driving. That is the reason why it is called fir tree – a fact that is not to be forgotten while mounting the tire for tires of such types, as all tires in general, work properly only if they are mounted correctly. Fortunately, they are well – marked to help us in doing it the right way – on every tire there is a pointer that shows us the direction in which the type has to roll. People with bigger vehicles or keen on dynamic drive will find this type the best for the directional tread has great water discharge and as a consequence is great for quick and aggressive drive. This type of tires is to be found both among the higher and lower quality tires.
Another type of tread is symmetrical tread – it is cheapest and simplest but also the least efficient. Such tires can be mounted no matter the side for it does not affect the comfort of driving neither its safety. It is offered by companies selling cheaper sets targeted at less-demanding drivers and therefore is becoming less and less trendy. Such tires are immensely resilient and have lower rolling resistance which leads to lower fuel consumption. Lesser traction possibilities are an obvious disadvantage and because of that they are only recommended to owners of smaller and weaker vehicles.

Next comes asymmetrical tread – rather big challenger to directional tire described in the beginning. This tread is distinguished by different shape of tire on the inner and the outer side. That is why it is important to pay attention to inside/outside markings while mounting the tire. The best environment for such tires are curves, moreover wet or slippery surfaces poses no problem for them. The inner surface of the tire is responsible for water discharge while the outer deals with traction. This kind of tires works well urban traffic, sports cars and even big limos. They grant great traction but it is also worth noting that they are more resilient than the tires with directional tread.
